Temple of tooth or Sri Dalada Maligawa is a sacred temple of Buddhist nestled at a pure environment of Kandy, Sri Lanka. Announced as a UNESCO world heritage site this temple holds the significant position in a history of religion.
It was believed that one who holds the relics has a power to govern the nation, century crossed beauty and an epitome of a nation holds the political importance too.
Malwatte and Asgiriya two vintage monks of a temple holds the routine worship inside the chambers, as the relics is preserved in such a way maintenance and respect are shown from every part of the world, rituals and symbolic bathing are done every after day to preserve a beauty and values of the temple.
The sacred water here believes to heal a wound and has power to wash a sin of a human and as an edifice and a symbol of nation a relics could be considered as a gem which holds an auspicious values for the people who follows Buddhism.
History
It is believed that during a Pyre of Lord Buddha one of his teeth was taken and it was hoarded to Sri Lanka and found in a hair of Princess Hemamali.
As history suggest it travelled throughout a nation and it was finally restored back to Sri Lanka specifically in Kandy to honour the purity and presence.
Several attempts were made to destroy the temple but the restoration completed the beauty and the shrine today serves as most holy places on earth.
What to see
Magnificent carvings and architecture of a temple is embarked by a purity of holy presence. Well decorated red roof, meandering Kandy Lake and awesome designs of a temple is surely a thing you would one to see as each bricks reveals a history and heritage of Sri Lanka.

But the most attractive and preserved gem is a tooth relics of Buddha which is covered within a golden lotus flower, carved in a jewel caskets which fits perfectly on a throne.
Festivals
Esala which happens only once in a year and it is a time when sacred relics of Buddha is taken out but not everyone would see a beauty of the majesty.
During this festival a dignitaries from around the world comes to see a holy tooth of Buddha which is castled in a beauty of jewel bowl. Procession, dance and beats of drums calls off the festival and this festival is one of the largest and well celebrated festival in asia where devotees from around the globe gathers under single roof to honour and pay homage to a sacred relics of lord Buddha.
Royal male elephant carries the reliquary of the sacred tooth and leads the procession these male elephants are ornately decorated and are flanked by two small elephants and millions pay a respect to a reliquary of Lord Buddha.
